I have a SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB - SDSSDA-240G-G26 and lately it's been running hot - at 65, sometimes peaking at 67 degrees celsius.
The SanDisk SSD Dashboard even failed to recognize that I even have an SSD. But CrystalDiskInfo is showing the details, and the high temps readings

According to the specifications, this ssd can run up to 70 degrees celsius, so it gets really close.
Now I don't know if the problem is due to bad laptop heat spreading, or the SSD itself is going bad?

Simple answer. Prop the laptop onto something to ensure that the vents on the underside are not blocked, and see if the temps drop. If no change after a few minutes (in all temps), then it's not airflow, short of the fan(s) being too slow, or really bad.

If airflow IS the cause, it's most likely something that builds up over time, and all the innards are getting hotter. If it's the drive, it should get hot a lot faster than the rest of the system (relatively speaking).

My experience of laptop overheating has always been down to lack of airflow and/or over-use of the CPU or graphics. All can lead to internal heat build-up. Laptops aren't meant to be used for power-usage imo. The whole 'gaming laptop' thing to me is a contradiction in terms (but that's a subjective topic).

Of course if you're using the laptop on a bed or other soft material that's prone to heat build up and inclined to block the vents, it will get hot.
