Odd beeping while starting up

The day before yesterday my PC turned itself off instantly after I turned it on, I thought nothing of it so I simply turned it back on. When my computer started up it beeped rapidly during what I imagine is the POST. It booted up as normal and seems to be running as usual. I didn't catch how many beeps there where cause I was not really paying attention. My motherboard is a gigabyte B85. I did install a new gpu into it the day before this happened and a new cpu about a week before this happened. I have not been able to get it to beep again by shutting it down or turning it back on or anything. My friend said it could be my ram is going bad but my ram seems to be working. My HDD has been acting up lately but it has been having issues for almost a year. My Gpu and CPU temps are normal even while gaming for hours they remain low. I don't what caused it and it is worrying me so if anyone has any idea please let me know; should I be worried?

I7 4970
8gigs of ram (I think crucial ballistic)
550watt psu
seagate 7200rpm hdd
Gigabyte B85 gaming 3 1150 socket
windows 10

This is difficult to diagnose, but because you didn't get the number of beeps or whether there were short ones or long ones and how many of each or the order, it's difficult to know.

To hear them during the POST sequence sounds about right, your computer encountered a problem during start-up and tried to indicate what that error was. If it happens again make a note of the beeps, and look up a beep table for the system you have. What I would suggest though is that you back up your computer now because from what you describe you could have a failing component in there.

Do you think the failing component could be my new GPU or CPU? that would suck. Could it be my HDD I was looking to get a big ssd I could just replace my hdd with that. It has not done it again could it just be nothing?

Without knowing the actual beep count and duration it' could be any of those things or none of them, but you've mentioned you have had trouble for a while now, and beep tables are triggered when something goes so wrong, the computer cant start. Perhaps your machine will work for another year or two or perhaps it will fail tonight. either way I'd seriously recommend backing up your essential data while it works, just in case. An intermittent fault can become permanent (like a soldered joint losing contact with the board as it expands and contracts through use).

My trouble has been with the HDD which I plan on replacing, I could care less about the data on it; everything else is running smoothly and the pc runs, starts up, ect with no beeping anymore. It just happened that one time and even when it did happen it booted up right after. Do you think that the one instance of beeping was just a fluke or can it come iand bite me in the future? it is really worrying me.

If you don't care about the data then just wait it out for awhile. Depends on your preference if you are buying a new hard drive anyway. It sounds like it could be a one off but realistically very hard to predict. Better to be safe than sorry?

Okay thanks, I hope it is just a one of, if that is even possible, it is really stressing me out and I can't get it off my mind. I dumped so much money into it recently with the new gpu and cpu that I can't really afford to get a new cpu, gpu, or board, with my HDD already causing problems too. Thank you for your time and knowledge. Can I ask one more thing? if you don't feel it is a reasonable thing to answer feel free not to answer. What do you think the chances are that it is nothing serious? I know it is really hard to tell, but given it is booting normally again and it seems to run fine, is it reasonable to assume it was just a one of?

on the mb make sure the mb has the newest bios to rule out a bios bug. if the power supply is a few years old it may have a bad cap or part that when there was a inrush power spike at post the unit output was not withing spec and the gpu was not getting clean power. the same could have happend with the mb. on most new mb there anti surge protection. if the gpu pulled more then 75v on the pci slot the mb may have gone into fail safe mode to keep from shorting out. you can download hardware info set it to logging and sensor see if the power supply rails are withing atx spec.

okay I will download that and look into it. Is that a serious issue, can it completely short my pc? I still have not been able to get it to happen again.

EDIT: I have still yet to encounter any beeping, I replaced my HDD as well with an SSD but I don't think that is relevant but I could be wrong.
