Upgrading PC for gaming

My problem is I have an outdated cpu (amd fx 4300) but it runs most of the games I already play pretty fine. People say I should upgrade from that because of how old it is but I also need a better gpu and if I upgrade both that will be very expensive. Would upgrading to a card like a gtx 1070 but keeping my cpu the same work for bigger games?

It depends what games you play and what your current gfx is.

The FX4300 standard speeds and overclock speeds are better than the 6xxx or 8xxx ranges; so you probably wouldnt see much of an improvement without a complete new system.

If your board is suitable, a step BACK to a Phenom 1090 or 1100 would probably give more of a boost. At stock, a 1090 is way better than a stock FX6300, and with a moderate overclock it is better than the FX6300 running at 5GHz.

the cpu is so weak you would not see much benefit from a gtx 1070

if you intend to get a good gpu of any kind, you need a complete new setup
