Hello,

I managed to transfer my dell optiplex 960 core 2 duo motherboard and components to a new home made open case and insert new gtx 750 ti gpu. I would like to ask;

1. What compatible power supply I can use for my psu upgrade?

2. Can I change my heatsink to a standars LGA 775 heatsink? I had one came from my friend's old unit but when I try to put it in the mobo it seems that the holes doesnt fit.

Thank you for the help. :) :) :)

Solution
The smaller PSU just reflects the fewer expansion slots and bays in the SFF. You just can't connect very much stuff to that MB. RAID 0 support!

The Q45 chipset doesn't support LGA771 Xeon swaps. Only 95W LGA775 CPUs.
Here's a list of CPUs filtered for that system.

Q9650, or E5450 would be the best.
The SFF can have their own bolt pattern for coolers.
0KR002 looks like the high performance heatsink for that MB.
95W CPU and 65W GPU=160W.
Which size Opti 960 did you start with? MT, DT, SFF. The 750Ti can run off of the PCIe slot power, The Optis almost always have a 95W CPU limit. At that level a PSU upgrade isn't needed. But ATX PSU will work OK.
T9303 is the late model BTX MT CPU cooler. It's more than enough.
Her are some builds for that system.

But if you do upgrade the PSU be aware that a GOOD aftermarket 400W PSU will just about equal a 305W Dell. So look for a quality 500W Unit minimum.

Some people list a P041K cooler from the MT435MT as fitting the Opti 960. It's an LGA1366 cooler and won't work.

My opti 960 is an sff. Hmm. Thanks for that. If i would like to upgrade my cpu core 2 duo e8400 into intel xeon by doing cpu mod does my current psu still good with it? And also I am planning to have 8gb ram (4x2gb ddr2 RAM)
