Is this PC build good value for gaming?

As the title says, my main focus for this build is gaming, but I would like to multitask lightly (dual monitors, discord while I game). I want to play all sorts of games at high settings 60+ fps 1080p. My idea for the build is as follows:

cpu: i5-8400
mobo: gigabyte b360m ds3h
ram: hyperx fury 2666MHz DDR4 8GB (2 x 4gb)
storage: wd 1 TB 7200RPM
gpu: evga gtx 1060 6gb sc
psu: evga 500 B1
case: corsair 88r

total ~= $1100

Any suggestions for improving this build at a similar price? I'm aiming for a solid and reliable build that will last me a few years without having to upgrade, but if I do need to upgrade my cpu/gpu then I'd at least like to have options (maybe after 3-5ish years). I don't want to mess with overclocking, because from what I know it doesn't improve gaming performance much.

I'm also debating whether to stick with 8gb of ram or to buy 16gb up front. As I previously said, I'm doing pretty minimal multitasking, so I'm thinking 8gb is enough. I understand that 4x4gb will consume more power than 2x8gb, but will the performance be significantly better if I choose 2x8gb instead of 4x4gb?

I don't know if it's better to lower the quality of the motherboard and the cpu to go to double ram as he doesn't even needs it for now... With 4 DIMM motherboard he could quad channel 4*4 in the future... That's my opinion... Also i think that X ryzen cpu's haven't coolers so you should put him a cooler... More budget... Finally, baraccuda especially 2 tera of them is not the best option for that space... I would recommend 2 drives of 1 tera, but he won't use over 1 tb for gaming!

My budget is $1250 CAD. The build you gave me is ~$200 more expensive than mine (not including ssd), but the R7 1700 appears weaker than the i5-8400 for gaming. I'm pretty much only using this pc to game. I might edit edit videos and stuff casually but I'll do that minimally compared to gaming.

This build is interesting. Its only about $70 more than mine and both have 16gb of ram, but your build has DDR4 3200 instead of 2666. The gaming performance of R5 2600x looks similar to i5-8400, but R5 can utilize 3200Hz ram whereas i5 can use 2666Hz ram.

Is it worth investing in Ryzen, since it can utilize higher speed ram than i5-8400? Will 2600x with 3200Hz ram perform better in games than i5-8400 with 2666Hz ram? I know it varies game to game, but I'd like a general idea of which would perform better in most cases.

I could also change your mobo to gigabyte b350m-DS3H mobo to making your build like $20 cheaper. What are the advantages of the ab350-gaming vs the ab350m-ds3h?

PCPartpicker also says there's a potential issue with your build: "Some AMD B350 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Pinnacle Ridge CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions".

Sorry for downvoting your answer btw. I assumed it was gonna be unhelpful because you simply posted a build, but now I'm curious if it's worth investing ~$70 more.

Gaming at 1060 wont feel any diff , limited by gpu
But ryzen gives you at.least 2x threads

Mainly b350m atx gamimg 3 is smaller version of full atx gaming 3 and cost much less.
It has good.audio. usb 3.1, power delivery to oc
and looks better may be
Believe to be more durable(biased?)
