No monitor signal, then no audio... MOBO issue? HELP!

Hi all, hope you can help me with an issue I've been having for a while now. I want to find out if it is actually my mobo playing up or if it's something else. I'll try and give as much info as possible.

Around January I went back to uni and upon turning my PC on was met with no signal from monitor. Tried different HDMI's etc etc and nothing worked then after a bout three days I just kept turning my tower on and off (in frustration more than anything else haha) and it worked. I had to do a system reboot sort of thing (removed apps like steam and spotify but kept my photos and most docs.) However there was no sound on the PC at all. Then after a couple of days the moitor said no signal again and it was like that for about 3 months.

It started working again randomly about a week ago now and has been running ok, no stutters on start up and a fast clean run when using the PC. HOWEVER - the no sound issue is still present. I've tried front and back jacks with nothing, downloaded what I think are the new drivers - nothing - disabled and enabled the audio devices in device manager and nothing at all. If headphones are plugged in long enough i hear a faint but consistent clicking in the right earphone - i dont know if that's useful.

My question to you knowledgeable people is; Do i need a new motherboard, or is this another issue that I'll need to try and find a fix for. I really just want my PC back!

thanks in advance for your time, RAFFY.

Hi sorry this is late I've been away - when I go to playback the default device is 'K242HL-4' (with Nvidia audio device underneath it) with a picture of a monitor. When I play vids the sound level reacts but I hear nothing.

So the default playback device is your Acer K242HL-4 monior? Is it connected by HDMI? Does it have built in speakers?
And when you play videos the sound level meter next to "K242HL-4" shows audio is playing?

Yeah thats what was default. My monitor does not have speakers no.. The only other option in playback is 'external speakers' which has no sound and 'Nvidia Output' (x3) which are 'not connected'. Yes, the sound level next to K242HL-4 shows audio is playing - but I cannot hear any.

That would mean K242HL-4 is set as default audio. Windows is sending audio to your monitor through the HDMI output. You need to right click Speakers and set that as the Default audio device.

Make sure you have "Show Disabled Devices" check-marked.

Ok. I have set speakers as default, ensured disabled devices are shown and I'm still getting nothing :(

Does the volume meter next to Speakers show audio is playing?
