Hello! So here is my issue. I made a new RIG and I installed windows on my SSD and I have a 2 tb hard drive. I want to move all my SSD new files to my hdd. I want to move like all the program files and the desktop / download from the SSD to my 2 tb HDD. I want my SSD for only Windows and steam games.

Is this possible?

Thank you.

For any Windows standard user folders. You can change the physical location. Windows will still see it as in your user folder so that programs don't recreate them. But the physical folder and files will be wherever you choose. This works for the likes of Documents, Desktop, Downloads, &c.

I would not change the location of Documents or Saved Games. Since some games use these folders extensively. They'd experience slow load times. I'd setup a documents folder and link it as a Documents location in Libraries. Although if it is just Documents it's probably too tiny to worry about.

As for programs you'll have to reinstall them...

Im sure there is some cmd thing you can do to change the program files folder to your hdd, but the simple solution is to redirect the install location of new programs to it. For example, when you install a new app like chrome, it will ask where you want to install it, just change the location to your hard drive.

When you download steam and install games you can direct it to your hard drive. As for your folders In Windows go to Settings then System then Storage. On the bottom you will see "More Storage Settings" and under that "Change Where new Content is saved". In there you can redirect your folders to your hard drive.

As for programs you'll have to reinstall them and choose the hard drive. Generally you can't just move a program unless it is designed to be portable. Although you'd lose a lot of the benefits of an SSD in daily usage. You can pick up a 120GB SSD really cheap now for programs if you wish.

EDIT
If you want to get really nuts you can try to symlink individual application folders. It's a deeper link than a shortcut. I haven't tried it for such a use. It could fool Windows and the application into thinking the program is still on the C:\.

Applications and the OS have gotten really good at allowing you to default save files to other drives.

Often, you don't have to do anything special beyond "Save As.." once. Later, that will show as a regular spot to save to.

Or, you can do this:
Win 7 & 8: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-1834397/ssd-redirecting-static-files.html
Win 8.1 & 10: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2024314/windows-redirecting-folders-drives.html

For Steam games, you can have them on other drives easily.
Like this:
Steam games location
In the steam client:
Steam
Settings
Downloads
Steam Library Folders
Add library folder

To move an already installed game
Games library
Right click the game
Properties
Local Files
Move Install Folder

You can't "move" programs to a different drive.
You need to Uninstall and then Reinstall on the desired drive.
