I have an 8gb ddr4 2400 cl16 ballistix sport and i want to get 8gb more to have 16 gb. the cheapest stick that maches series and color wise is an 8gb ddr4 2666 cl16 stick. Will it default to 2400 and run in dual channel since they are from the same series?

Solution
Maybe. Maybe not. OEMs change suppliers all the time and its possible that the modules you receive will have different chips or chips with different densities. That's why DRAM is sold in "kits" that are guaranteed to run together. Just matching the specs is always an iffy proposition.

They may work together in dual channel mode or single channel mode or not at all.
