Hi I am new to the forum. I have been reading up and came to a decision that I would like to run a gtx 970. Currently, I have an i5 2400, and that will probably be the max CPU/GPU combo. I currently have a a 750ti and 400w evga power supply. My question is that I would like to upgrade my power supply as the 970 requires a 500w and I have been looking at the corsair VS550. That is the low end model I understand but is there a need to get a CX550 or higher? I am kinda on a budget so I don't want to spend an astronomical amount. Thanks in advance and let me know if you need any more info!

550 watts will be more than enough for that system. But not all PSUs are created equal and the VS is at the bottom of the corsair's product stack. I would not put a VS unit in my rig. I would at least go with the CX. The Seasonic S12II is another decent budget option.

Here is one in the US for $30:
