Computer water accident - doesn't start

Hello,

I didn't know where to put this, so I put it here.

A very bad thing has happened to me few days ago. My room is situated just below the roof in my house and the computer stands below the roof window. I left the window opened by accident and there was a big storm. When I came back, I found water on the floor (had to mop it for 20 minutes). But the worst thing is that the computer doesn't start at all. I have Corsair Obsidian 750D case and I found water residue near the PSU (bottom side) and a few water drops on the top-side fans (Corsair H115i).

I took the PSU out and let it rest for 3 days. Now I tried the paperclip test and the PSU isn't working.

The weirdest think, though, is that the other components seemed totally dry and intact (dust on the top side of the GPU and so on). So I am quite surprised how the water got in exactly.

If it's "just" the PSU (Seasonic Prime 750W), I will live with it and buy a new one. But it's the GPU that I'm worried about the most. It's Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. I am worried that it might have got damaged as well, either by water or the PSU.

My question is, what steps should I do to troubleshoot it? I just did the paperclip test. I think I did it right and the PSU didn't start. What next?

Would there be a possibility to use the warranty with explanation that it just "stopped working"?

Thanks for any tips :)
Tomas

P.S. I don't need to hear that I am stupid and shouldn't put my expensive computer below a window. I know that now. Thanks :)

I would start with getting (or borrowing) a new Powersupply and see if your computer will boot up.. IF only the power supply got water in it you should be OK.

I would visually check all the other stuff. like the motherboard and such. see if there is any water damage like residue or anything burned looking.. IF you are lucky (I have seen it with laptops) after a few days it dries out fully and you are good to go.. sometimes I have seen some residue / corrosion and have had luck with cleaning it with 91% or higher proposal alcohol (NOT rubbing alcohol) and everything being AOK. the Power supply would be the most effected normally if you get any water in there. though it could fry everything.. like if the water conducted the AC over to the DC side of things.. then normally you would see something burned.. but not always. GOOD luck!

Hybernate you may have a chance that nothing else fried. Of course tough to tell without testing. Once you have determined everything is DRY I would replace only the PSU and see what happens. You may have gotten lucky.
