I have my I7-7700k over clocked to 4.7ghz, and at idle it sits at 60-65c but under full load it just gets to 90. i have a h100i v2 and was wondering if this is too high or acceptable for that oc

If you have option in bios or in windows to save your overclocking profile, load default bios settings including cancelling any xmp profile on memory and see if there is any significant temp drop. My i7 7700k stock with Asus enhanced turbo disabled (intel turbo core enabled) in bios sits when idle in high performance mode at 40 at 22 room temp with Thermaltake 360 pump at 75% and fans at 600 RPM.

What about your vcore? Did you set that manually or let it adjust automatically? You should manually set it for best results, which requires some trial and error testing to find best results.

Everything is in auto mode, I even downgrade the 16 GB corsair 3200 from XMP to regular auto frequency profile sometimes to test temps. I Haven't had the chance to notice any difference since I rarely power on that PC, (still stuck with my old rig with FX 8350 :(), or set it to 3200 Mhz manually instead of going through XMP.

Sorry, I was asking OP about his vcore. Auto vcore + OC can result in unusually high voltage and temps.

I consider 90C too high for sustained operation, personally....

my own 7700K runs 33C idle (800 MHz in Balanced mode) hits 72C max at 4.5 GHz on all cores (MCE on) under the worst case AVX load of Prime95 v 28.8, and only 63C in Battlefield 1, Prime95 V26.6, or Intel Extreme Tuning Utility /cpu stress test....

Unless you have a GTX1080Ti and are struggling to maintain 144 fps frame rates for high refresh rate monitors, most overclocked CPUs are spinning their proverbial wheels and are typically GPU-limited by many games even at 1080P... (BF1 for example, gains 1.5 fps at 5 GHz over stock)

So true.

I delidded so I could run 5.0GHz and it worked, but gaming performance was... about the same as 4.5GHz.

In my case, with a GTX1060, I knew I was long since GPU-limited, so have lived happily at just MCE-enabled speeds of 4.5 GHz across 4 cores, but I'm quite comfortable with sustained 60-63C gaming temps.... ; the Noctua NH-D15 is whisper quiet, and, I have my fans only at medium speed....
