So I was just looking at case fans to buy and install in my Corsair 100r, and when I looked into my case I realized there actually isn't much clearance between the heatsink and the top of the case. My heatsink is a hyper 212 EVO, the Case recommends max height of 150 MM and 212 is 158. Could this cause any issues other than maybe just not enough room for fans etc? its been working steadily for about a year and a half no issues yet.

It is 8mm difference you are talking about. If the tolerances in the case design is so tight as no allow the 8mm difference, then you won't be able to close up your case. But if your case is indeed the Corsair 100r, where are you getting the idea that it has a 150mm limit?

If you look at the pictures here:

This looks like a standard ATX case, and the 100r is 200mm wide, there is no good reason why the heat sink should be limited to 150mm. It can probably fit up to 180mm tower heatsink.

The 150mm really does not make sense one lick. The PC mobo back plate has a standard 45mm-ish meausrements. And then there is the 120mm fan, and then there so gaps between the back plate and the fans, so at the very minimum will have toe be 45+120 = 165mm, but easy estimates for the gaps will put it at 170mm for a very conservative guesstimate.
