Hello everyone, just registered to these forums and was looking for some help into setting up a NAS at home. It will be mainly used to store a vast amount of photos, videos and music of which I want the 3 pcs at home to all access. I’m planning to buy this one https://www.pclan.com.au/synology-diskstation-ds218-2-bays-nas-20tb-2x-seagate-10tb-st10000vn0004 however I am lost on configuration; RAID type, and basically how to set the whole thing up. I’m really technologically challenged when it comes to these type of things. I know people will respond telling me to do research and I have but the problem is I literally still do not understand as the lingo used I’m not familiar with and I just get lost with the tech side of it. Also most people have like a 4 bay set up or something. If anyone could help me and please spare me the patience to explain to me the best configuration for the hard drives and how exactly to set the whole thing up I would be so very much grateful. Thank you.

$1400 is rather expensive for a 2 bay NAS, even at AU conversion rate.

I have a 4 bay QNAP TS-453A. 4 x 4TB Seagate Ironwolf drives, RAID 5. Leaving 12TB space.

These things are relatively easy to set up. The OS is pretty comprehensive, but also rather easy at the basic level.
