Want to control what's displayed on a monitor on the other side of the building

So we want to set up a monitor at the other side of the building that we can display anything on, Excel, Powerpoint, other productivity based things like that, nothing too demanding.

The two main options I've found have been a compute stick or WiDi adapter. The compute stick is nice because it's independent but we can't control it remotely and the WiDi adapter relies on us having a computer or one screen on a computer dedicated to being mirrored.

What other options are there or are there workarounds to the problems with these options?

thanks!

You need a NUC or compute stick. You would set it up and then remote into it (RDP). Set it up with a monitor in the same room as the "control" PC then move it to the other side of the building.

Is this really a digital signage use or something else? Trying to understand if this is "canned" data being displayed -- slide show for lack of a better term, or you have someone that has to interact with the displayed data. You keep coming back to MS Office. That usually requires human interaction, so a mouse and keyboard. But that WOULDN'T require remote control. I am a bit confused of your use-case.

Can you better define your requirements? Do you have to be able to control the remote screen from ANY device or a specific device? What about phones/tablets? Is this monitor repeating what is displayed on a monitor or acting independently? Do you have wired ethernet connectivity at the remote monitor?

Nothing more demanding than microsoft office, controlling it form other computers would be nice but it only being controlled by one would be fine. No phones or tablets, just controlled by a desktop. We don't want it just repeating what is displayed as then we would need something sitting there with the display to be repeated. there is wired ethernet and wifi

essentially we want to mirror a virtual desktop controlled by one of our computers we can have running in the backround and bring up when we want to change what's being displayed (possibly several times a day)

I've created a program in excel that connects to a SQL server and updates to sync up with the tables at regular intervals. This is what will be displayed the majority of the time. Possibility of interaction with it on their end would be good to keep future options open.

Going to look more into the RDP, I think that's kind of what I was looking for.

Thanks

What's a transparent screen lock? Will the RDP not work?

RDP will allow you to remotely access a PC. When you have access the directly connected screen won't be active. When you log out of RDP, the PC will be at a login prompt on the directly connected monitor. You don't want your Excel program running without a password to get into the PC. That is a big security risk. You need something that is transparent to the underlying running program(s) but acts just like you locked your screen. Those are the types of functions that a kiosk mode computer would have.
