Looking to upgrade my cpu

I have an i7 4770 with gtx 1080, get max cup in some games. I play at 2k max on a 75hz monitor, was thinking about getting the ryzen 7 1800x. Is it worth it and will it be a better long term investment or should I just stick with what I have?

The i7-4770 clock speeds are fairly close to that of the 1800X.
What you DO get is 8 more threads.
If your games are primarily multiplayer, that upgrade could be good.

To see how sensitive YOUR games are to many threads, try this experiment:
In the windows msconfig boot advanced options option set the number of threads to less than what you have, namely 7.
You will need to reboot for the change to take effect.
This will tell you how sensitive your games are to the benefits of many threads.
If you see little difference, your game does not need all the threads you have.
