CPU booting at 89c for the first time

Hi, this is my first pc build so I’m a little confused on what to do right now.

So, I have finished building my gaming pc and have booted it into bios. However, I am running into two problems.

The first problem is that the temperature starts at around 40c and then shoots up to 89c over a few minutes. This seems really for he computer being in idle. I checked and my liquid cooler (Corsair H100i v2) seems to be running properly. The cooler is plugged into the CPU_fan header and it’s two fans are plugged into the Y cable coming from the cooler. Is this the correct way I should I have these cables plugged in? And is there specific settings I should be using bios to make sure my cooler is running properly? In addition, I removed the default thermal paste and applied my own.

Secondly, I am getting a CPU fan error which I am not sure how to fix.

Finally, just some other information. I have not installed windows yet because I am nervous too when the CPU temperature is 89c. Is the Corsair link software necessary to install for my cooler to work properly? As for my parts:
-intel i7 8700k
-asus Rog strix 2730 E
-nvidia 1070ti
-Corsair H100i v2
-EVGA 750w supernova G3
-Corsair vengeance 16gb
-Samsung 960 evo series 250gb ssd

The power cable for the pump (the unit on the CPU) should be plugged into the CPU_Fan header or the pump header if your motherboard has one. Can you hear the pump working in there? It should be a slight ticking sound.

First you need to remove the cooler from the CPU and install it properly. Your temps should not be above 40°C in the BIOS, unless your PC is in a hot oven. Look at the manual or watch a video on youtube for proper installation.
The radiator fans power cables should be connected to cooler/pump and then the cooler/pump cable should be connected to the motherboard CPU fan header.
The Corsair link software is not necessary for the water cooler to work properly.

Yeah, I don't think your pump is actually working. The problem with connecting the pump to the CPU fan header is that it gives variable voltage. You might have to go into your BIOS and disable the fan control. It's sometimes called "smartfan" or something like that. For some mobos, you have to actually enable the PMW and then set all the intervals to 100%. Someone with your mobo might be able to walk you through it.

Also check your core voltage, some motherboards default very high. There are also settings for the CPU speed in the BIOS, check to make sure it isn't some overclocked value. (Look up Multi-Core Enhancement as well)

My i7-7700k decided on 1.36 volts on first boot, good thing I used the big cooler to breadboard it.
