So i recently upgraded my internet speeds to 400mbps. I was super excited till they told me i needed to use their modem instead of my personal one. The modem i have works perfectly and supports gigabit speeds. Its also on their approved list of modems. So why the hell are they making me downgrade my modem to their P.O.S. modem?

Tell them you wanna use your own. No reason for them to force you to use theirs, they make money by using theirs. Xfinity collects 11 dollars a month extra for renting their modem. I believe thats what you're talking about.

I asked them if there was a fee for using theirs and they said no. that's the main reason i bought mine to begin with. before spectrum bought twc i has to pay 6 bucks a month for a modem. when the installer comes to hook up my phone im gonna ask him and see why exactly they are forcing me to use theirs.

As long as the modem they provide gives you the speed you are paying for on an ethernet port, what difference does it make? The router behind the modem is what is important. As long as you can provide your own router, use their modem and move on.
