I have purchased two WD EasyStore 8tb drives from best buy. I plugged in the external drive through usb and confirmed the drive is a white label WD80EMAZ model.

I know that these models need a 3.3v workaround to plug into the pc as an internal drive.

I am going to use these as external drives for data storage.

What I am worried about is, if the drive's sata to usb chip fails, will I be able to recover the data by plugging it in internally and using the 3.3v workaround? Or will I still not be able to read the files due to usb hardware encryption?

I understand that sometimes data saved to this drive thru the usb might be encrypted by hardware. Do you guys know is the easystore will use hardware encryption when using it thru usb?

I also have the option of getting WD My book 8tb external drives for the same price. Whichever I use I want to be able to recover my data if the USB chip fails.
