Bringing an external drive back to life

I have a 500GB Seagate Momentus 5400.6 that I was using for backup files. A bit ago it started doing weird things on me, taking hours to access single files, or the computer would ask me if I wanted to format it. It got to the point where every time I plugged it in it wanted me to format the disk, so I took it in to data recovery. They said the drive was dead on account of the circuit board, but they got all my stuff off of it.

Thing is, the drive has no other signs of death. It spins up nicely, no clicks or humming, and every computer I plug it into recognizes it. Only PC just wants to format it and Mac can't find anything on it. It seems a shame to have to toss a HDD that seems otherwise mechanically sound. Could I swap out the PCB in hopes of being able to use it again, or is it not worth it at this point?
