Howdy,

So I am using the following motherboard : Asus H110M-E/M.2 wiith a SSD (SATA 1) and a HDD (SATA 2). Somehow in the BIOS EZ MODE, both my drives are listed under the tab SATA INFORMATION, but only the SSD is detected in Boot Order.

I checked for SATA being enabled under Advanced mode. I switched cables and stuff, tried different plugging into the MOBO. Only the SSD is detected.

So I tried unplugging the SSD to check the HDD alone and, guess what, the HDD was detected in Boot order (but could not be used as such (?) meaning it would only loop in BIOS and not get into Windows), whereas it wasn't when the SSD was plugged in ! So I tried again different combinations, only SSD plugged, only HDD plugged, both but plugged in different ports, etc. etc.

My conclusion is that the BIOS seems to detect only one drive at a time in the Boot order, but when SSD + HDD are connected, both are listed in EZ MODE under SATA INFORMATION, but HDD is not recognized/detected.

I haven't found any AHCI option in my BIOS. I haven't tried removing the CMOS battery yet.

Anyone able with ASUS motherboards could give a little help, here ? My next step is to remove the CMOS battery but maybe I am forgetting something here. The fact that I don't find any AHCI option is strange by itself...

Thanks in advance !

in advance mode under sata is achi mode. also check to see if the m2 devices are on or off. whe nthere on some mb lose sata ports. chec kto see that the mb has the newest bios file. if not download it and use the bios updater in the bios to update it. if it not a bios issue it may be power issue if you have a weak or old power supply or the drive controller is failing.

I checked every tab in the BIOS, I never saw any AHCI option.
I checked the motherboard's driver in Windows Device Manager and it told me it was up to date.
Power supply is brand new, Coolermaster 600W - more than enough for my needs.

I will dig deeper but meanwhile, any other thoughts ?

In your motherboard Bios menu, go to Boot tab, look for "Hard Drive BBS priorities" entry where you can change hard drives available for booting , this will make your HHD choice available for "boot option priorities" list when populating it's "boot slots".
