I have just bought a new graphics card to replace my old one. This is new to me and after I put the new card in I have had tonnes of problems which i have no clue about.
The new gpu i have is an asus gtx 1060 6gb oc and im worried about its compatibility with the rest of my computer which is quite old in comparison. My psu is a Coolermaster Elite Power RS500 500W Power Supply (PSU) ErP. Which i belive has enough power. My motherboard is an msi Z77A-G43. I have not attempted a BIOS update but i know that some of the updates help PCIE compatibility.
So far with the new graphics card installed my pc takes an excessive amount of time to start up, 6 minutes compared to 10 second with no card.
It starts at a resolution of 1024x768 and if I try and change this the screen will go black for 20 seconds (a very long time for my pc) before loading back up completely blurred with lines across my screen, this is the same with or without drivers installed. Whereas when i take out the gpu the basic display adapter starts my computer in 1920x1080 and the computer runs fine, much faster than with the gpu.
In device manager the gpu shows up but there is a fault, code 43. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling drivers, old and new, many times to no effect.
Also when i try and open BIOS, to check if the PCIE slot is enabled. It apears over half of my monitor in the top left anf I cannot open any of the advanced menus as it freezes forcing me to turn off my computer.
In addition after I download new drivers and restart my computer geforce experience does not detect the drivers.
I have tried two different monitors and two different cables, a dvi cable and a hdmi cable but things seem the same.
The fans of the gpu turn on at the beginning so i think it works. I read these automaticly turn off to save power in standby.
I have no clue how to fix my gpu or what is going on. Could my gpu be dead?
