So I just upgraded to Verizons Gigabit services and I'm very disappointed so far. I've already called them 3 different times trying to figure out the problem but all them would gave me the same solution: to restart the router. I would every time and nothing would change.
Currently I'm using the Router/Modem they provided me, the Verizon Gateway G1100. It supposedly supports Ethernet speeds up to 1000 mbps, the highest I've ever gotten through Ethernet is 90 mbps, on 3 separate machines, 2 different laptops and my gaming pc. I also tested with 3 different Ethernet cables and that didn't help.
The thing that I'm shocked about is that even my gaming pc didn't see a change of speeds compared to my other laptops. The motherboard is the MSI Z370 with updated drivers. Over wifi, if I'm right next to the router using a Samsung Galaxy s8 I would get 250 mbps MAX. Never seen speeds above that.
Using the speed test that verizon provides on their website it says that indeed the router is receiving the gigabit speeds I'm paying for, but it claims I have a poor connection with the router (keep in mind I'm connected with Ethernet). Also I'm aware that the speeds are divided onto how many devices are streaming, but I'm the only one connected.
Sorry for this girthy request but I kept it as short as possible. Could it be a defective Gateway router, or should I just buy a new one? If I were to buy a new router what do you all recommend? Thanks in advanced!
