Will my CPU cooler be too big for my motherboard and block RAM?

I have an I7-8700 CPU and I am getting 70-85C temps wich is not good. I have a stock cooler, so I was thinking about buying an aftermarket aircooler (Be Quiet! Pure Rock) but I am afraid it will overlap with my RAM. The motherboard I have is an ASUS Prime H310 M-D with 2x 8GB RAM sticks. Anyone that can help me. I am also thinking about getting an NZXT S340 case. If I do, where should I put fans. Would it be better to have a liquid CPU Cooler?

Solution
I would mount the fan on top of the heatsink fin stack, not underneath, and direct fan air towards CPU in your case. The will cool the VRMs as well. Should be a great cooler, though on the pricey side. It's made to fit in small builds, so clearances for GPU, ect, shouldn't be an issue.

On a side note, I'm using a Noctua NH-U9S to cool my 2700X in my ITX build, though planning to add 2nd fan. Case is very small though, NCASE M1. Also using a NH-U14S on family members PC based on X99 Intel setup. Noctua makes great coolers.
Cooler would likely fit, but could potentially create other issues. Most standard tower heatsinks are designed with being relatively close to RAM in mind. Most jumbo size will clearly mention potential clearance issues. The problem in your case could be the motherboard. It appears to have a lower end VRM setup with no heatsinks for cooling them. The stock cooler, top down airflow style, cools VRMs as well. The tower style won't directly cool VRMs and rely solely on case airflow. With your i7 8700, you could end up throttling at times due to VRM temps. In your case, I'd look at a top down cooling style. Case choice would work fine, though recommend at least 1 additional front intake fan.

Would something like a Cryorig C1 work well and FIT for this? Also, how would you put the fan placements in the NZXT S340? 2 front intake, 1 back for exhaust? I have had a lot of trouble recently with this as I am not an experienced builder. I tried switching all of the other components into my old case to see if it helped with temps, and it didn't I am currently hitting 80-85 on load :/ I also have a GTX 1080 I need to make sure that doesn't overheat.

I believe the S340 comes with 2 fans, 1 rear and 1 top. I'd just recommend buying an extra or 2 for front intake. Rear and top are generally exhaust. Thinking about it, if you buy the S340 and switch top fan to intake and leave rear exhaust, it may take care of VRM concerns.

Regarding cooler, how tall is your RAM?

EDIT. Looking around, the Noctua NH-C14S looks excellent. Can put fan either underneath or above heatsink to clear RAM, and is both quieter than C1, and can run 10C cooler. I personally use Noctua coolers in some of my builds, great stuff. Usual gripe is the color scheme.

I don't have an excact measure of them, since I am not home and I don't have access to anything to measure with, but I can give you an idea. Using my finger and measuring on an online ruler, it's about 3.5 cm from the RAM slot. About 3-4mm above the plastic ring that's going around the CPU cooler, lol.

EDIT: If I were to buy the Noctua NH-C14S, would it be best to put the fan below or above heatsink? And blowing wich direction?

EDIT 2: The RAM I have is Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 (2x 8GB) if you can use it for anything. I think it's a pretty standard size RAM

Thanks for the help man. I have also been looking into the Cryorig C1 or C7, I don't think they will interferre either, as I have seen my excact ram being used with it. I'll get the NZXT S340, move all my components over into that case, smack some extra fans in there, and see if it will be fine with stock cooler. If temps are still too high, I'll buy an aftermarket cooler. Thanks bro, you really helped me out alot :)

Sounds like a great plan. That way, you can see if you really need the cooler or not. On a side note though, I've seen reviewers mention the stock cooler isn't adequate to run the i7 8700 at full load. This means it will throttle with stock cooler under full stress. So down the road, almost anything would be an improvement. Anyways, glad to help. If you need anything else at some point, I'll try to help. Just send a PM.
