i have a dell optiplex 755 pc that i want to use for gaming. it has a R5 230 graphics card in it. what else should i do to make it capable of gaming?

Q9650,Q9550 CPU 8GB DDR2 800 RAM (low density). The DT makes the GPU choice a little harder. It requires a Low profile card.
Unless you get the PCIe riser assembly.

Officially that has a 25W GPU limit. On page 79 of the manual here.

And stenciled on the MB by the GPU slot. Lot's of peopel run up to 75W GPUs in these but it's at your own risk. You might consider getting an Optiplex Mini Tower computer.755,760,780 and even 380 are all "good" choices.
The MT can all take a ZOTAC GTX1050 2GB Mini (or 4GB Ti). I haven't tried it with the riser, but it would be the best choice.
In low profile the GTX750TI, or the GT1030. The low profile GTX1050 all have a DVI port that makes them 2 slots wide. some metal work would be required to fit one. You have to watch the length an any card more than 1 slot wide. The will hit the CPU cooler.
