Hey my dudes . I’m having trouble deciding which to buy. Currently running i5-6400 with a GTX 1050ti . No hardcore gaming . But I just came up with an extra $300 . Lookin at a brand new i7-8700(non k) OR a GTX 1060. Of course I would have to buy a new MOBO and a PSU Since I only have a 400watt , if I chose to buy the coffee lake . Where would I see the biggest performance increase

Haha, you like to be vague don't you. For 'lightweight gaming' why do you need to spend anything at all? You should be fine as is.

Upgrades by themselves don't do anything. It's about meeting your needs. A 1060 is objectively a faster card than a 1050 Ti, but that means nothing if your 1050 Ti already does what you need.

I think your CPU is fine. If it's just basic stuff. Your GPU could improve game performance, whereas CPU won't improve anything for you, not the basic tasks. Most games are GPU dependent, not all. The CPU has could run basic programs for the most part. I believe it shouldn't run into an issue.

I feel like GPU overall would give you a better noticeable performance increase over the CPU. That's my opinion.

You know what . You just saved me from impulse buying . Reason being is because I found a brand new sealed i7 8700 for $200 .

I recently traded my PS4 pro for another PS4 + $300 . I figured I could use that to upgrade my second PC . its only used for Fortnite and PUBG.

Current specs are i5- 6400 w/ GTX 1050ti , 16gb Ram, 500gb M.2 SSD , gaming 7 z170x motherboard, crappy 400w PSU which causes audio interference and buzzing .
