When you get a new modem will it take a bit for the upload and download speeds to get up to what the company said it would be?

Solution

So you have a modem and a wifi router?
You could test the devices separately to see if they are working properly.
You could power off the modem (unplug power it if there isn't a power button) and connect the computer (wired) directly to the modem. You could use the Ethernet cable that is going from the modem to the router.
Power the modem and wait for it to establish a connection with the ISP then try the speed test again.

Your up/down speeds will vary depending on traffic, distance etc.

What the company said it would be is "up to". AFAIK, outside of fiber, no companies 'promise' anything wrt speeds for either up or down.

A new modem will do what it can, there's no warming up to those speeds etc. The speeds are either available*, or they're not.

*At that given moment. Try at like 2am, and you'll likely see greater results!

What ISP? Where are you located? What speeds were you quoted? What speeds are you seeing? What time of day is it for you?

A modem does not need to warm up like a old car in the winter. It should hit either the maximum ISP allowed speed or its maximum rate speed as soon as the link is stablished

ISPs never sell you a specific Internet speed. They will use something like "up to 200Mb down" or "up to 35Mb up" . They want to cover themselves since there are many factors that could affect your speeds.
Traffic congestion, wired vs wireless, distance, etc.
What speed are you supposed to have and what's the speed that you are actually getting?

Wired? Wireless? If wireless, what band? (2.4GHz / 5GHz), what device(s)? N or AC? What kind of distance are you from your router/modem? Any obstructions? (walls etc)

You're also at near "peak" internet time. 6pm for you right now? So a lot of people home from work etc.
Not that it should result in such a huge swing, but even things like that come into consideration.

Wireless, right next to the modem, no walls, on 5GHz
