Powerline Fails For 1 Second

Hello,

I've been using a powerline to use a wired connection since I play a lot (mainly Fortnite). The router is downstairs so running a cable from the router to my bedroom wasn't a good idea. The powerline works great but sometimes it fails for like 1 second but that's enough to disconnect me from the game.

If I buy a WiFi adapter, can I use powerline and WiFi connection at the same time and could it prevent the disconnects (would the PC automatically use the WiFi when the wired connection failed)?

If not, a better powerline could save my problem? My powerline model is this.

Thank you!

Yes and No. If you were to say unplug the powerline unit from the wall it would likely switch to wifi. The problem is the powerline unit itself is likely up but it does not pass data for some reason. The ethernet cable will not go to a down state so the pc will never switch. So your powerline unit would have to be failing in a way that the ethernet port is actually going down for it to even have a chance to switch

It would cause a major glitch switching over even if it did so you still would likely get disconnected. I don't know how fast it switches there is some delay since you run the risk of it constantly switching back and forth which is almost as bad as it not switching.

It would be nice if powerline units had some...

It would be nice if powerline units had some kind a error log that tells when it has issue but I have not seen any that do. You would at least have a clue what to look for.

The newer powerline units based on the AV2 standard tend to have fewer issues because they use a more robust data transmission method and use the ground wire as well as the hot wires to transfer data. Still there is no guarantee. I have a shop vac that can kill any powerline units in the house. It really can be something as simple as the refrigerator came on.

Yeah, like you said the Ethernet stays up. I even installed a software that is supposed to track connection problems by pinging some servers every 2 seconds and it never reported fails, because it's really a short period of time, but it's enough to disconnect me from the game and it sucks because there's no way to reconnect to the game

IF you want to do that you really need a server OS to setup a real fail over etc.. and if you are getting connection issues with the powerline stuff (I also use it on one computer) and it never disconnects.. SO either your wiring is messed up OR your powerline stuff is messed up. the one I use are the TRENDnet Power Line 1200 AV2 TPL-421E2K and they work great for us and don't have the disconnect issue.

Hope this helps.. I would maybe check your breaker box (make sure the wires are tight) (don't do it if you are not good with AC voltage)
