I've been having problems with my microphone for a few months now. I tried using reaper and VB audio cable to filter out some of the "background" noise except today I did some more digging and found out it wasn't. I unplugged my XLR cable from my mic and began listening to my mic and I could still hear all of the static noises from before. Is it a bad cable, interference, or is it just time for me to invest in a soundcard instead of onboard.

1. Built my own desktop
2. I hear it through my headphones yes, I go into the sound settings and turn on "listen to this device" on VB audio cable
3. I have no other microphone/camera on my computer other than my condenser.

Well what I mean is I'm not hearing my voice I'm hearing interference of some kind.

okay if you have it disconnected and you cannot hear your voice, that is good. and normal as it isn't connected to your pc.
the static therefore is not from the microphone but from your headphones, headphone jack or even often I found the headphone wire is tied inside case along the main power cables of the computer and they are the cause of your static noise ( I could give you a dissertation about electrical fields interference but I wont)
