Weird problems with RAM

Hello, i have some problems with some ram that i purchased from ebay. More specifically 2 problems with different sticks.

The first one and the one that bugs me the most is that i have a stick that reacts like a zombie or something. It gets detected from my computer and even memtest but it just wont be used at all. My first computer had an i5 760 with a mini-ITX OEM motherboard. I originally purchased one brand new stick (ADATA AD3U1600W4G11-B 4GB). It worked perfectly fine. Of course 4GB was just not enough for gaming so i decided to find more on ebay. I found the "same" ram stick that i originally purchased when i was building my pc but the stick was a bit darker in color and it had a different style of sticker. Strangely it had absolutely the same model number and i bought it. The stick did boot up with my old one and it even got detected correctly but windows said that it was "System reserved".
1) Yes, i had 64-bit windows installed.
2) No, there wasn't a limit on how much ram can windows use.
The stick also refused to boot on its own (alone). I also noticed something strange. When i boot the computer with it, it would restart before it post and then everything would be fine. Since i had an OEM motherboard i didn't had any options to change the voltage of the sticks.
After one year of using my pc i decided to upgrade to an xeon 5650 and a asus
rampage 2 extreme. Then i noticed that my zombie stick didn't worked on this motherboard either and it pulled 1.7 volts for no reason. I tried overvolting it to 2.0-2.1 volts but that's just too high for any stick to run so i gave up.
Any ideas how can i get it to work?

I also have a second problem with other sticks of ram. One day i decided to by some old ECC memory to see if it works on my pc (since now i have a xeon cpu) and it turns out that it worked even with my old stick of ram that i had. After lurking around on ebay i found 12GB(2GBx6) ECC Registered/Bufferd memory for 13$(12€). I already know that my pc supports ECC so i decided to buy it. I got them but my pc wont post with them. I already tried resetting the BIOS but it also didn't worked. Could they be just defective or is it because they're registered/bufferd? I just want more memory on cheap.

Im still new to this website so im not sure if im supposed to give that much information.
Sorry for my bad English. Its not my first language.

Solution
First problem: the other stick you bought is probably dead. Even though it is detected when used with first stick.

Second problem: ECC/ non-ECC and Buffered/Registered are two different qualities. There are a lot of motherboards that will work with both ECC and non-ECC RAM, but still will not allow Registered RAM. If the set you bought is Registered and your motherboard allows only Unbuffered RAM, there is absolutely nothing you can do to make it work.
