Single/Dual Channel detection upon 'late' purchase?

Hi guys, my title might be a bit weird and hard to understand. What I was trying to say is if I 'for example' bought a single Kingston Hyper X DDR3 RAM 4GB on June and on December I buy another single Kingston Hyper X DDR3 RAM 4GB will it count as dual channel RAM?

I've heard possibilities of those RAMs not being able to run on dual channel mode, will it run on single channel mode but, 8GB in total?

or Windows won't boot/post at all?

Dual channel ram is when you install matching DIMMS in both channels of your motherboard (for example slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, see manual). Whether you bought them at the same time or different times doesn't matter.

BUT

There is a chance they may not work together, which is why "dual channel ram" is sold in packages together. Ram can be finicky like that. It will "probably" work, especially if you buy the identical ram, but theres a chance it will not.

Yes, I do get how dual channel RAM work because I have a PC with dual channel RAM in it. What I was curious is what will happen in this 'unable to work' dual channel situation? Will it still boot with 8GB but detected as single channel or it won't boot at all?

Won't boot at all, or if it does boot will be unstable (but in dual channel). Dual channel is dictated by the physical presence of RAM in 2 separate channel slots, not a specific setting or type of ram.
