GPU core clock issue

Hi Guys,

Ive been noticing that my core clock isn't constantly maxed out when I game etc.
Some info :
i7 7700k @ 4.6ghz @ 1.90 v
16 gig 3200 mhz g skill trident at the default XMP profile
Asus gtx 1060 strixx 6gb
ssd
750 W seasonic focus gold PSU

Now i've overclocked my 1060 to :

Core volatge + 0
Power limit 116%
Temp limit 92
Core clock + 190
Mem clock + 555

in windows ive set my energy plan to performance mode
nvidia control panel 3d settings to prefer maximum performance

so up until a month or two back i would get constant 2088 mhz with +190 and no extra voltage
I could also easily get 2114mhz with a +203 on my core clock and core voltage maxed out...
(i once got upto a 2140 orso just to see what cld be done...)

recently I been seeing my core clock dip from 2088 to 2076, back to 2088 , etc etc. sometimes dipping down to 2050 or 2025 ...
For clarity... im happy with 2063 or whatever.. doesnt really mattre to me... but... this inconsistency is bugging the shit out of me...

question being.... what is up with this ? hahaha
A clarification of this would help me ... im losing my mind trouble shooting lol.

second question : is it safe to max out core voltage in msi afterburner ? I'm not a fan of pushing this... but ive read a bunch of stuff that since the BIOS is limited by nvidia ... i shld feel free to max out in AB ??

Thnks in advance !

The reason it varies is due to the GPU boost. it's like a factory OC that you cant really control per se. you can increase the OC in MSI AB for example and the max boost will increase but you can only control it so much, all you can do is manage it. What i mean is, that gpu boost operates based on temps which you did not mention in the OP. so the card will boost as high as it can as long as the thermal conditions will allow. you can try and provide a more suitable environment for your card so that it can maintain boost longer, by increasing case fan rpms or adding more for that matter. As far as the troubleshooting you are trying to do, you are just chasing your tail because there isn't anything wrong

hmmm cheers
thing is I have a define R6 with 7 case fans optimised so my gpu never goes above 60 C and my cpu never goes about 50 C ...
like I said its not a huge issue to bump up n down 50 mhz... just ... dont get it :p

thnks tho
