Intel S5000VSA server motherboard

Dual Intel Xeon X5355, overclocked to 3.2Ghz with SetFSB, 1.25v, 80c at 100% for 30 minutes on dual Hyper 212 Evos.

16GB ECC DDR2 667MHz

AMD HD 5870 2GB OC to 1000MHz

NZXT Phantom 210 with front drive cages removed and a custom dual-3.5 inch bay mounted on the bottom.

Thermaltake TR2 430w

Power supply is definitely not sufficient to run this build at its full potential. OuterVision recommends a 1200 watt power supply.

I want to know if I'll be fine with 800W because that's what I can afford right now.

I have other computers, this is just a fun build. Do not instruct me to get different parts except the power supply.

I just want an answer, is 800w enough or do I need more.

You used 4x4, I'm using 8x2 and these use a ton of power. The HD 5870 is also OC'd to 1GHz. I'm also using a sound card and 8 120mm fans rated at 4w each.

I see, you didn't specify some of those, but I'll reconsider:
That RAM will use 10 watts more tops, OC on that card, adds about another 25-30 watts, high-end sound add 10 watts, 32 watts worth of fans. So you got about another 80 watts more there. Still any good quality 800+ PSU will handle this system.

Would a thermaltake smart white be good? they only make them up to 700w but that's still enough without GPU OC? I can also get a different GPU later on like a 1060. the 5870 is just replacing my broken RX550 at the moment, they're pretty matched in performance.

700watt is a little tight. I think it will be fine if you remove overclock from CPU and GPU though.

the overclock on the CPUs is what allows this thing to remain relevant, lol. What about a Corsair CX750M?

I have the CX750M in my primary rig, a Rosewill Arc 650 Modular, and the crappy TR2 430. The Rosewill is powering an i7 2600 and an R9 390X. I killed a 400W with the 390 and Folding@Home. Is the 430W enough for the 2600 and 390X for gaming? My main rig has a 4790K, 32GB RAM, a 1070 and a Tesla M2050. I need the Tesla. Cna I run my main rig on 650?

Buy stronger than what you need.
A psu will only use the wattage demanded of it.
In the process, it will run cooler and quieter if it loafs a bit.
When overclocking, the psu will be more stable if it is not pushed too hard.

The real key is to buy a top quality unit.
Look for a tier 1/2 unit.
