Should I get this new set of RAM

I currently have 2 different sets of 16Gb RAM, this G-Skill set and this Corsairhttp:// set. I currently have them OC’ed using XMP and everything is working great. I was just wondering if I should upgrade to this G-Skill sethttp://, because if I upgrade my CPU+MoBo in the future I don’t want any compatibility problems. Also on the specs on Newegg it says it’s quad channel but the manufacturer website said it was dual channel, so if you could tell me that would be great. Finally are the advertised timings when the RAM is OC’ed or when it’s running at

(Would this set work with Ryzen)

Thanks

Sorry I wasn't paying attention. Yes if you upgrade to a motherboard/CPU that supports quad-channel it should in theory be capable of quad-channel.

It's best to always have matching sets. to ensure quality control and consistency. Yes, the Ripjaws V will work perfectly with Ryzen. If it's within your budget, get them. then turn around and sell your older sticks for a little bit of pocket cash. Or keep them as backup sticks in case something goes wrong with your new sticks.

Lastly, why 32GB? what are using the RAM for? If it's just gaming and regular old PC usage, then 16GB is all you need. 32GB is better suited for those who use certain programs from Adobe and the like and require the huge amounts of RAM.

I’m still thinking about it, but just one more question, are the advertised RAM timings correct when the RAM is OC’ed or when it’s running at 2133mhz

I know the motherboard dictates whether it’s dual or quad channel, but doesn’t the RAM have to support it too?

Thanks

No, you would just have to have 4 identical or similar enough sticks to run quad-channel on a quad-channel supported system.

Theoretically you can install any random RAM sticks of matching speed and get dual or quad channel working.
The problem is tiny differences in timing due to manufacturing differences can cause errors and stability issues.

That's why we have dual and quad channel kits, not because you have to use them but because they are tested to work together as a set. Usually they are from the same batch with sequential serial numbers.

When Dual channel first arrived dual channel kits didn't exist, they quickly arrived when the problems started happening though.
A lot of people get away with mixing and matching RAM but it's a try it and see situation with no guarantees.

Ok, so if I get this kit and get a quad channel motherboard, it will run in quad channel? And if I get it with a dual channel mother it will run in dual channel?

Thanks

That kit comes with 2 sticks, it will not run in quad-channel unless you have 4 sticks.
