So this is going to be kind of lengthy, but I'm currently on my 2nd PC build for a friend right now, and after buying and assembling everything, the computer turns on, but doesn't go into BIOS. The specs are as follows:

650W Power Supply
An ASUS P7H55-M motherboard
A GTX 1050
A non Windows formatted WD external HDD
An i5 650

I reseated everything, and after it still didn't go to BIOS, I noticed a chip on one of the CPU contacts. There is a divot on one of them. It looks like half of it was just chiseled out. I'm assuming that this is the problem, as the CPU wouldn't be making full contact. My only other idea is that because the hard drive is not formatted, the computer wouldn't be able to boot from that. However, as the computer is not even able to get into BIOS, I assume that it is the CPU, as BIOS is stored on the MOBO, not the HDD.

Thank you for reading this and taking your time to answer!

OK, so after reseating the RAM and moving slots around, it wasn't actually a bad RAM stick, it was a bad RAM channel. The channel A1 is the dead slot. Both RAM sticks run fine and boot to BIOS in the slot B1, but A1 is a no go. Is there a way to modify the RAM slot settings so I can run my dual channel kit in A2 and B2? Or am I stuck to single channel of 4GB. Thanks!

OK. CPU failures are rather uncommon but that spot is an oddity. Where did you get the chip?

Also, you didn't list the RAM in the OP. You said you reseated everything, but how about running with one stick at a time, in different slots to try to identify a possible bad stick or slot? Another thing to try is resetting the BIOS by popping out the little button battery with the PC unplugged from the wall, leaving out a minute or two before restarting.

I go the chip from eBay. IN the picture it did not have any indication of that crack. Here is the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-Processor-SLBTJ-i5-650-3-20Ghz-/292550192617?epid=115939825&hash=item441d59ade9%3Ag%3Atm0AAOSw-JJaZk5U&nma=true&si=z74s7zLE6sDGUEhg9KQZmuYKSBA%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Sorry about the RAM. It is ADATA XPG 8GB DDR3. I will try running one stick, but I am a little confused. What do you mean by "the little button battery"?
