Hi, I am looking to upgrade my desktop and I want to go with the i5-8400 and the ASRock - Z370 Extreme4 motherboard. I want to buy a 2666MHz RAM but I don't know whether to go with 8GB or 16GB, as I have read before that 16GB is an overkill and I am not sure if 16GB will fit into my budget. I mainly use my desktop for gaming.
Thank you for any help :)

Most games only require 8gb of RAM and it is the standard. For gaming, how much RAM you have really depends on the rest of your system. If you have a 1070 or greater, then 16gb of RAM will make more sense than if you have a 1060, because a system with a 1070 and 8gb of RAM will get better fps in games than a system with a 1060 and 16gb. In short, you money would be better spent on a better GPU than more RAM.

Just dont forget that windows will use 2-3GB alone. So that leaves you with +/- 5GB to game with. 16GB is fast becoming the norm - a lot of people will use 16 as a standard now. So IF you can fit it into your budget, go for 16. Check your games requirements to see what they need for optimal config. You may be ok with 8GB total for now.
