Current specs ... gtx 960 - i5 6600k - 2007 1440px900 60hz monitor

Just ordered a 240hz 1080p monitor instead of 144hz 1080p monitor cheaper with 150$
so i saw people who said there is not that difference between 144 and the 240

i'm planning to upgrade the gpu and the cpu to gtx 1080 and i7 7700k

the problem is why do i feel guilty to ordered the 240hz instead a cheap 144hz ... did i just waste my money on MARKETING thing that companies do to get more money ?

I picked the 1080p instead of 1440p .. i saw alot of 1440p monitors in stores and was comparing it to the 1080p .. so i didn't notice the huge difference .. so i'm not a resolution guy .. so 1080p is perfect put i feel guilty to picked 240hz and wasted money even i didn't Try a 144hz or 240hz in my life before ... i used to play on my 2007 monitor for like 5 years

also .. what will happen if i got 150 to 180 fps with 240hz ? .. will the game be smoother than 144 fps - 144hz ?

Looking at the spec you are working with I would be suprised if you achieved over 100fps on more demanding games in 1080p so having a monitor that has a 244Hz rate is not really going to benefit you, you would be better putting the extra cash back into your other upgrades.
Truthfully when it comes to monitors of either higher refresh rate or higher resolution, it's an investment. Consider yourself lucky because people are purchasing these new 4k panels that have a144hz refresh rate, meanwhile there's no graphics card available that can match that refresh rate (yet). If you're planning to go with an i7 7700k and gtx 1080, the sweat spot is a 1440p gsync monitor. What games do you plan to play?
