My son needs a computer (He plays GTA and Overwatch) I was going to build him one but found a prebuilt on Amazon that looks like a good deal for him for $699 CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXIVR8020A5 https://www.amazon.com/CYBERPOWERPC-GXIVR8020A5-Desktop-i5-8400-Processor/dp/B07B6H4GNY/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1529654266&sr=1-1&keywords=gaming+pc

He already bought himself a gaming keyboard and mouse and has access to a copy of windows 10 from an employee friend for cheap.

I just bought myself a GTX 1080 to replace my 970. My 23" 1080p monitor doesn't do it justice so I'll be replacing it and giving it to him.

My current PC
Asus Z170 PRO GAMING
Intel Core i5-6600K
Nvidia GTX 1080 Strix
Samsung 850 Evo 500GB
Samsung 850 Evo 250GB
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 C16 2x8GB
Dell 23" 1080p

I have $600 for a new monitor and $700 for my sons prebuilt PC. (I can go a little out of budget)

Do I get the prebuilt for my son and put my GTX 970 on eBay or use the 970 for my sons build ? OR use the $1300 for a new build for myself (with the GTX 1080) and give him my current pc which is only about 1 1/2 yrs old ?

Your current PC is still very capable. If that processor is paired with a decent cooler, It can be overclocked and will probably be good for gaming for a few more years. That paired with a GTX 970 would be a good combo for your son as you mentioned he plays mainly overwatch and GTA. the 970 can easily handle those at 1080p 60fps. You can maybe add a mechanical drive like a 2TB Barracuda for mass storage for games and be good. As I said before, that system is very capable of running games at 1080p with 60+fps.

You can use the $1300 for yourself and build a high end PC. Which also can be handed down to your son later down the line when you decide to upgrade again. So it become like a neverending cycle xD

I would go against the Cyberpower PC, as those usually have crappy PSUs. You would have to buy that and spend around $60 on a good PSU afterwards. And only a 1TB HDD and no SSD is also a major drawback.

Thank you very much. I was thinking that direction but doubted $1300 and an extra GPU would be enough for a monitor and build something better than what I have. I just got the GTX 1080 yesterday. I can put the 970 back in and give him my entire set up. Then browse the forums for $2,000 build that included GTX 1080 and I should be good to buy the rest with the 1300
