It is an i7, even without graphics card or being first gen shouldnt be laggy.

Yeah it sounds like malware/spyware. Do you download free software? Visit torrenting sites a lot? It is VERY rare for a CPU to start failing out of nowhere, especially an intel chip. Run some malware, spyware and antivirus software first like the person above suggested.
Last resort: re-install your system and see if that fixes your issue. That would tell you if it's a hardware issue or software.
