Slow laptop add an SD?

Hello
I have a slow laptop (1ghz AMD with 2 gb ram and slow hdd). I have an extra ssd that I am considering installing.. but I need to pay technician since I can't get the case open myself. Wondering if it is worth the 40 dollars or if I will even see improvement. The ram is fused so I can't add more. I have windows 8 and enabled system boost with an SD card. I am mostly using basic applications since I have a bigger /better computer at home. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Considering you only have 2GB of RAM, upgrading to an SSD is well worth the upgrade if you plan on keeping the laptop (the performance in paging out to a swapfile will be greatly improved).

But IMHO, if you can hold out to pay extra, look into a Dell or HP refurbished laptop. You can get some great deals for a low cost.
