So I have a half dead Nvidia 970 which is out of warranty.

I can get one display out of it at a time in 1080p but not two which is what I need for VR gaming (one to the monitor, one to the VR Headset). This has kind of come at the wrong time so I dont know what to do about it.

1. Buy a 1060 3GB and await the arrival of the 1170. How long will I have to wait?
2. Buy a 1070 and if the 11 series is due out soon miss out on it?
3. If the 1170 is imminent then hold out with no VR for a few months (I dont want to wait more than three months).
4. Buy the VR Ready entry card for AMD (I dont know what this is and if its cheaper than a 1060) and await the arrival of the 1170.
5. Wait for the 11 series to be released, wait for the mass sell of by miners of their 1080s, and grab one if the prices are really low.

What would you do?

I apologize that it took so long for someone to answer.

Personally I would wait for the 1170. Why? GDDR6 and a performance boost to boot means there should be a bigger performance boost than normal. I think they will be out in Sept. with an official announcement coming either Aug. 20th or 21st. Add in the release date falls within your preferred time window and it sounds like waiting will be best. You could also save money in the interim and maybe be able to afford the 1180 instead.
