Okay so I’m trying to get the i7 7700K cpu which is a Lga 1151 socket. I have the asus z-97k mobo which is a Lga 1150 socket. Which obviously I need to upgrade it to a 1151 socket. No worries. However I have 2 8gb hyper x ddr3 ram sticks. Most mobos that are 1151 are ddr4. I’m not going to buy any ram now atm as the prices are insane. So does anyone have any ideas or any mobos I can buy that will work ?

Why are you trying to buy the 7700K? What are you trying to do?

HardOCP did a test on the 2600 and the 7700K and found that for gaming, the 7700K is only 20% faster. Probably less than that at normal resolutions. If you are gaming, just put a 4770K in there and be happy. Unless you need something found on the 7700K/board.

Okay well I currently have a i7 4790K which isn't & hasn't been overclocked. I was going to sell this so i could get a better one. I do some editing on my youtube channel but even though it has a lot of cuts (i make edits to movies & fight scenes ) it has never once lagged & is extremely quick when rendering. I just wanted to upgrade the cpu as i have the money and enjoy working on my pc. I do play a lot of games on it but again everything is fine with it. Just looking for a cpu that will be better then the one i have and a friend said that the 7700k is the best for the value. I also want this for streaming as when i stream on mine now i lose so much fps in games and make it un playable. The person above suggested a i5 8400. Would this be any good ? Or is there a better one that I can get that can fit my chipset

If you are streaming and editing as well, I suggest the Ryzen over the 8400. The 8400 isn't really any better than what you have now. It's a 6C/6T instead of the 4C/8T CPU you have now. It's more of a sidegrade. The newer Ryzen CPUs like the 1600X has more cores which should help with gaming and streaming.

Well since i have a intel cpu i'll have to change the mobo. Do you know any good mobo's that are good? If i were to spend some money on a new one id go with a rgb one if possible. I also have ddr3 ram so i dont know if there will be any that support it

PM from OP.

Hey man, sorry I can’t reply on the forum. I’m on my phone and not giving me an option too. If I’m going to spend some money I’d like to spend a decent amount on a good cpu so I don’t have to upgrade near enough in the future. I heard that the one I choose (Ryzen 700x I think

The CPU is fine if you can afford it. But for a gaming rig you can go down a CPU or two and not lose much in frame rates. The 1600X is generally considered the sweet spot for Ryzen CPUs and gaming. My biggest issue was that used board for ~£80. I would think that's the cost of a new board. Here in the states we can get new ones for ~$80, used should be closer to $50. That board seems really overpriced though being outside the USA might be the reason.

Yes having a lower price cpu would be great as would have some to spare or wouldn’t have to sell more things. Would the ryzen 5 2600x be better than the one you suggested ? I just don’t want to be downgrading from my i7 4790k and also want a boost in performance. I’m looking to stream, video edit, photo edit play games etc all fine and better than my i7 cpu.

And as to do with th mobo. I could get a new one with the money saved on the cpu but I take advantage of amazons returns. I know it’s not great to buy used pc parts but if soemthing is wrong with it I can get a full refund and a replacement

Amazon's return policy isn't any different than most other retailers. Pretty much every retailer of PC components uses the same 30-day return window for a defective product, with your option after that being an RMA with the manufacturer.

If I'm buying used, I want it to be a LOT cheaper, not just a little bit. Or else I might as well just buy the new product and enjoy the warranty and other goodness. From the used parts you've listed I just don't see the advantage of buying used.

I'll second what 4745454 said. There is a significant amount of risk that you absorb when buying used computer components from an unknown source (if the seller isn't a personal friend, it's an unknown source). You need at least a third off the price of a comparable-quality new part, unless it's something very valuable that's very difficult to obtain new, before it should even be considered.
