So I am trying to decide if the wemo or something similar is worth it in order to save energy while not at home. I mean doesn't it consume energy while being plugged in in order to use wifi? Another thing is should I buy a digital thermostat from walmart for less then $40 bucks?honeywell thermostat I have a basic thermostat and I am unsure if this is efficient or not?I have the basic thermostat that came with the house and just wondering if upgrading to that digital one will cool my house or warm my house better since I can set at a precise temperature.

Yes a digital thermostat is more accurate and can save you money. There's a hot wire to the thermostat that provides power. You don't plug it in but you do have to wire it correctly. Power draw is miniscule.

I installed an Ecobee 3 a couple of years ago. It's nice to be able to automate the settings. It's not a magic money saver though. That will depend on what settings you use.

I am not referraing to the thermostat when I said I was thinking bout the wemo. I was wondering if plugging that wemo in and turning of another thing like say a lamp would draw more power to it since its constantly on power since it has to work through wifi in order to get the command to shut of that outlet right?
