External HDs on Mac..can be mirrored via RAID?

Hi everyone

I have two backup two 4TB Lacie external HDs on USB 2.0 ports on my trusty old iMac.
This can also apply to the new iMac i will purchase when the newest model is released.
One HD contains video, the other contains music.

I am not sure what hardware to purchase, or how to set up backing these two drives.

I know little about RAID setups, but am educating myself now. I'd like to purchase a 8TB drive to backup these drives by mirroring. There are decent reviewed drives by WD I am looking at.

I am guessing I would have to partition the 8TB WD drive into two 4TB sections...but really at a loss right now. The WD manual (PDF) and website do not make clear if this drive can for my purpose.

Maybe it's overkill, and I can do this cheaper on my own setup? The 8TB drive would have to be NAS.

Thank you.

Raid = no.

You should use a Syncing program to synchornize the 4tb's drives to 4tb partitions on the new drive. I'm just not sure what is available for this on a Mac.

I paid $140 for my 8tb USB drives. I don't think that you will find a cheaper solution when its less then the cost of the drive.

Hmm. Thank you, popatim.
So, a sync program would automatically mirror what I drop into either drive, into any drive I configure in that application.
May I ask where you got these drives? That's really a nice price!!

Poptim...I’ve just purchased that WD at Best Buy. Great price and reviews.
Thanks for your help.
To anyone reading this, you can use Time
Machine to backup your Mac drive AND any external drive. That can be done in Time Machine settings.
