Hey gang! I've just gotten a hold of a gx 480 8 gb to replace my older radeon gpu. Here are the specs that I have currently (As i wait for a DP to VGA converter):

-Windows7 64-bit
-Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40Ghz (8CPUs), ~3.4gHz
-AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series
-480 W Powersupply
-Directx 11

My assumptions as of now are:
-Although graphic card box recommends 500W powersupply and up for this card, that I have at least what one would could consider minimum requirements, and shouldn't worry about blowing my computer up since i'm not going to be pushing it particularly hard.
-Since i'm replacing a radeon card with a radeon card, i shouldn't have to worry about uninstalling all of the software for my current card.
-My setup should go something like:

1)Turn computer off, and switch out the hardware. (taking care to let the power drain from the battery and being careful not to break the GPU cards)
2)plug vga into integrated graphics card to access all of the GPU drivers that i need, while the new card is in the computer (waiting for it's drivers and software)
3)After installing the new drivers, reset with monitor plugged into new rx 480 card and...
4)Good to go?

Thanks!

no, just because your PSU has 480w on the side of it does not mean it will be up to the task. you didn't mention the brand which is enough to tell me that you need a new one that is at least of good quality and at least the min power rec. requirements. you didn't mention if your PSU even has the proper 6 or 8 pin PCI-E power connector. so if I were you, I would slow down get a decent PSU and then plug it all in. I recommend EVGA, I've had good luck with their PSU line

Update: So I've come across this one, which seems like it'll do the trick (just watched a youtube video on cables so they make alot more sense now)

anywho's this is the one i'm looking at: https://www.amazon.ca/Corsair-Memory-Cx500-80plus-Bronze/dp/B0092ML0MY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1529991973&sr=8-1&keywords=Corsair+cx+500w+psu

My only question with this one would be whether i should be concerned about its compatibility with the i7-3770. I have a feeling it'd be ok, but it'd be nice to clarify this. Thanks!

DO NOT get a green label cx series. These are really bad psu's and have a high failiure rate.

Ok, I won't get into the PSU as that's a different story.

You are a bit wrong with your installation process. What you should do is remove your current drivers with the old card still installed (I recommend using DDU). Once the drivers are gone, power down and swap over cards. Plug your monitor to the new card (the integrated won't display anything with a card in), you'll have low resolution graphics on the basic display adaptor. Go to the AMD driver website and enter your card and OS details and download and install the recommended driver.
