I recently decided to up my system by booting Windows 10 from a new SSD I bought for that reason. My Lenovo Y510P has a free m.2 slot so I bought a m.2 SSD (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NT-256-240GB-256GB-NGFF-SSD-HDD-M-2-SATA-6Gb-s-MLC-Solid-State-Disk/32817754508.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.443e4c4d78yCLp) which is listed as compatible on the manufactur site.
When running Windows on my old HDD it recognises the SSD just fine and I can read and write whatever I want.

I created a USB Bootstick using Rufus and the latest Windows 10 build from the Microsoft Website. The installation runs just fine until it has to reboot to finish off. Then I unplug the USB Stick just as I should and the system restarts just to tell give me this error (in UEFI mode):
Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains error.

File:\Windows\system32\winload.efi
Error code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacture.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware settings

When I start in Legacy mode it does recognise the SSD but it doesnt recognise anything bootable on it.
Any ideas on what I did wrong? I read several reports on people booting their Y510P from the m.2 SSD so it should actually work. Is my SSD broken? Did I mess something up in the BIOS (which I updated already)?

I also contacted the seller, however they seem to not have competent service personal, all they did was offer me to return it and get a new one because of warranty.

Edit: I checked the content of the SSD and the apparently missing winload.efi is in fact on the SSD in the right folder (system32). So there seems to be a problem with accessing the SSD..

what happens if you don't unplug USB at the restart?

Is m.2 drive the only drive in PC when installing? Does it show up in the boot order?

Problem is likely that BIOS isn't looking in right place for the EFI partition. It might be looking for USB still. Your manual for laptop is lacking details regarding bios, I wonder if there is a way to get it to boot off USB once so that next time it starts, it auto picks the SSD instead.
Press F8 for startup options
This loads Windows recovery
choose advanced (this might not be here, it might be troubleshoot)
choose troubleshoot
choose advanced
choose command prompt
follow this - https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-rebuild-the-bcd-in-windows-2624508

Not sure that will work as installer isn't finished yet. I would suggest Safe mode except you haven't set up any users yet so impossible to login

If drive works enough to show the EFI, I doubt its the cause.

If i keep the USB plugged in the PC just boots again from the Stick and asks me if I want to install Windows.
I didnt manage to get into Windows recovery over f8 so I startet it using the USB Stick.
Tried what was described in the link you provided but it behaved very strange. I tried the bootrec /rebuildbcd command and it returned that there where no windows installations to be found.
I could however export the bcd file and late rename it. After that it should be able to find a Windows installation, but it still couldn't.
Just for the heck of it I tried exporting or renaming the bcd file again, which failed because it couldnt find the file. So I think the bcd file was there in the first place but for some reason bootrec still cant find the windows installation.
Any ideas what that might mean?

Thanks a lot for the help!

What windows does just before the restart is copy all the installer files onto ssd, its meant to boot off the SSD at this stage and start the installation process, so somewhere along the line its meant to forget the USB exists and just use the ssd. Its not doing that, the bios isn't being changed and I am not sure why.

is ssd only drive in PC? did you remove the hdd?
Did you try restarting PC after error without USB in?

Do you have latest BIOS? https://support.lenovo.com/au/en/solutions/ht069154
