Games Keep Crashing on Startup

Hello,

I am having a problem with multiple games in my steam library in which when I launch the games, the games opens and then within a few seconds crashes to the desktop. They only way around this I have found is to run the games in compatibility mode for windows XP (service pack 3) and as an administrator in some cases. However there is at least one game (Insurgency) in which this does not work. Some of the games which I have experience the main problem with are;

Euro Truck Simulator 2 (which I did manage to fix by running it in OpenGL, it seems fine now when I run it with DirectX),

Grand Theft Auto V (which did the same thing but now all of a sudden as the error "Please run Grand Theft Auto V using PlayGTAV.exe." I don't understand this as I am booting the game from steam which then opens the Rockstar Social Club Launcher),

Insurgency as mentioned before (this just crashes straight to the desktop no matter what I do, if I sit in the menu, after a few seconds it crashes and the same for when I load a game.)

I also had the problem with Skyrim but i don't mind running that in compatibility mode as I can just put that down the the age of the game however the others which did run fine on my PC I cannot understand.

Some other games in which this happens are:

Rocket League
Mirror's Edge
Counter Strike Global Offensive (which i have got to work in compatibility mode as an administrator) But it did work fine before.

That's my problem. I cannot understand why this has happened as nothing dramatic has changed on my pc. The compatibility mode work around i have got to work does only work on a few games but I shouldn't have to do that when i know that the games run flawlessly on my PC. Like i said ETS2 seems to have fixed it self from running once in OpenGL but that's the only one that works as it did.

In case you where wondering my pc specs are:

i5 7400
GTX 750ti
1TB Western Digital HDD
Gigabyte H110M-S2H motherboard
16GB of HyperX Fury 2400mhz ram (2x8GB sticks)

Sorry for writing an essay but I just feel you would need as many details as possible. If you need to know anything else, please ask as a would like to get this resolved.

Thanks again

Harry B.

This is a long shot, but I was having same issues when playing various games, one being Final Fantasy XV, which would crash on me every 5 minutes. CS:GO kept getting corrupt files after every play, in which I had to do an integrity check every time priorate launching CS:GO. My issue? I had bad RAM. I swapped out my RAM for known good one's that my issues are gone.

I'm not sure if you have any RAM lying around, so I know it's not too convenient. Have you OC your RAM? Changed the timings on them in the BIOS? Good to set the RAM to default values to see. That's the ONLY thing I can think of. If you really want to see whether it's software or hardware, re-install your OS, install steam and try running those games again and see if...

Actually I haven't tried to reinstall the steam client, I have reinstalled a couple of the games but to no effect but I shall try the steam client if it wont delete all of my games and data.

I know it's a lot of work to re-install your OS, but it's cheaper than buying new RAM unless your absolutely sure it's the RAM.

Well hardware is really the only thing I could put it down to but this pc inst a year old yet, I and don't have any DDR4 RAM lying around. (i have lots of DDR3 though:) but that's no use.). Reinstalling the OS is the last thing I want to be doing purely because of the time it take to do so. but I suppose it may have to be done if at cannot be put down to anything else.

I'll try going into the BIOS and reseting everything to default but i can't see it having an effect as I have never messed with anything in there

On the BIOS for memory, do you have XMP capabilities? If so, try selecting XMP for your RAM. Usually it has the correct values for the RAM. Only other thing I can think of that may help.

oh, I forgot to look for that XMP capabilities but I think it was there and by default it was set to auto.
However resetting everything in the BIOS to the default value has fixed GTA V but the problem persists in Insurgency, Rocket League, Mirror's Edge and CS:GO

Just thought of something, I'm going to try it anyway, but updates for DirectX and that Microsoft Visuals thing. do you think they might help?

EDIT: this did absolutely nothing

I had another look for the XMP in the BIOS and I did find it. There is only 1 profile and it holds the exact values as the default ones and has had no effect.

I did have a quick lookon the steam forums and i did find some people with a similar Issue however they resolved it using things I had already tried.
However my next thing to do was make a thread on steam.

Yeah, that definitely would have helped but I reset the PC last night and everything seems to be working fine now. All of the games work now.
I still have no answer to what caused the issue but I know it wasn't the hardware however the issue did persist with CSGO but that was to do with my "autoexec" file but I fixed that with some launch settings copied from somebody else who had the issue.

In case you are still interested my PSU is an EVGA 430w.

Something else in which I have learnt from this is a way to back up my steam games when I reset windows 10 but keep my files. I moved the "common" folder in the Steam directory to my desktop reset and then moved it back and just had to click install on the games and it would discover all f the files for that game.
