My laptop specs are:
i5 7300 HQ
GTX 1050ti
256GB SSD
Windows 10
My problem is weird. When my laptop is plugged in and over 40% battery then it works fine.
However, when the battery drops below 40% (Whilst plugged in), then the CPU throttles. In Intel XTU it states that it is thermal throttling, even though the temps are never over 70C when this phenomenon occurs. I also noticed that the Package TDP power drops from around 20-25 W to 7-9W. This was confusing as intel xtu thinks it is thermal throttling but it is a voltage throttle. This causes HORRIBLE fps in games and make the computer very slow. I suspect that somehow the computer goes to power saver mode when at 40%, even though I selected High performance in power options. Also note that the issue is only resolved when i restart it whilst above 40% charging. In other words, when the throttle happens it cannot be fixed unless by restarting laptop, charging to over 40% doesnt fix it.
I have updates bios and recently re installed windows.
NOTE: I am using a 4.5Amp replacement charger( even though y520 needs a 6.7 amp one HOWEVER, it was working fine until recently something happened)
