im wondering if you are able to use an empty separate drive to add to the storage of your C drive. i know you are able to use 2 partitions from each drive to create a new drive letter e.g. D, but you cant use that method for this since you have to delete the volume from both partitions. if there is a way to do this could you let me know?

if you just plug in the second drive, it will be assigned a drive letter and be good to go as is (assuming it is empty and formatted already, otherwise do that first thing). it'll likely be the D: since C: will be the drive you have now.

simple as that really.

no..., C: Drive is C: Drive

Your next added drive will be D, or E, etc....; you can install applications to the new drive by selecting it in the installation menu...

If you have a too-small SSD for a C: drive (common if using a 100-120 GB SSD!), best bet is to clone to a new bigger drive, then extend the partition out to occupy all of the new drive's space...

Or, simply fresh install to the new drive, reinstall all programs, etc...

If you keep your eyes on Amazon, they recently had a 1 TB 860 EVO for $237 or so....; that's a bargain! (Look for similarly priced Corsair MX500 sales, also an excellent drive)

i thought the same thing but also figured he did not know what he was asking for exactly and chose the wrong word :)

adding a second data drive is the way to go. messing with merged/spanning drives and such is a total pain in the neck and not suggested for novice users for sure.

Yup, agree 100%. I'm not a novice user and *I* hate merged drives too! I prefer the minimum complexity to get a task completed.
