Is downloading music using SoulSeek really slowing down my machine?

So I use the application SoulSeek to download music and import the files into my ITunes. My machine seems to run really slow when I do this. Is it because I am running multiple applications at the same time or is it because of the downloading of the files. I do download entire albums all at once so I feel that is the issue. Any help with this is appreciated.

SoulSeek is a P2P application - So I'm sure we're talking free, non-copyrighted music..... right?

Are you monitoring CPU/Memory usage while running the application?

The downloading aspect, won't necessarily "slow" anything down - unless the bandwidth is set to priortize SoulSeek downloads. If that's the case, then your browsing experience may well suffer.

From a quick Google search, it appears that SoulSeek does eat up a lot of system memory, depending on what/where you're navigating specifically.

What are your system specs?

downloading uses both the net access and system resources. so yes it will slow things down. specifically your hdd is working hard to write all the data so when you try to run a program or something else form the same drive it has to wait to access the needed data. thus it's slowed down.

it can't read and write at the same time. plus you're using ram to hold the downloads until they can be written further slowing things down.
