128GB M.2 SATA SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)

OR

16GB M.2 PCIe Optane Memory + 1TB SATA 7200RPM HDD

Just looking for some quick advice, noob here, thank you!

Solution
The only difference seems to be:

16GB Optane + 1TB HDD
$1079
vs
128GB SATA III SSD + 1TB HDD
$1099

If those are the only two choices, I'd go for the dedicated SSD, the 128GB+1TB HDD.

250GB SSD + HDD.
Depending on what motherboard and budget, NVMe drive instead of SATA.

Why?
The 120GB is right on the edge of TooSmall for an actual OS drive.
The Optane is good as a cache for an HDD, but an SSD is fast across the whole space.

So...what are the rest of the parts, what is the whole budget, and what do you use this for?

Hi USAFRet!

I'm just picking between two builds that have are relatively close in price, and just confused on the benefits of the optane memory. I know most would recommend building out your own computer, but for convenience, I'm just purchasing a pre-built computer.

Here are the links for the two builds:

2) https://dell.com/en-ca/shop/desktops/new-inspiron-gaming-desktop/spd/inspiron-5680-gaming-desktop/di5680_btsb_s110e

I believe they're effectively the same except the hard drive components. Would appreciate any of your advice! Again, noob here, so please bear with my lack of knowledge.
